Worksheets & ChartsIt is good Genealogy Practice to use worksheets and charts with your family research as well as having it digitised on your computer. After some time your family tree can grow quite large and your data can start to pile up.
Using worksheets can be very beneficial, they can keep your research organised and make future researching quicker and more efficient. Keeping a log- sheet of the documents and the source you retrieved it from, will prevent you wasting time on a search you have already done and prevent you from duplicating documents . There are many different varieties and styles of worksheets & charts available to download on line, I have added a few starter ones that you can click to download.Check out the links below to see a wide-range of worksheets which are available: they cover nearly all subjects. Filled out worksheets is another way of keeping a back-up of your work |

THE IMPORTANCE OF BACKING- UP
The Internet has no doubt brought Genealogy and Family Research to an amazing new level. It gives us access to Certificates, Documents and all kind off Archives, we can contact people much quicker with emails and of course we can build our own Family Trees on our Computers. Most Tree Software also gives you space to store your finds, add references and upload photographs. We cant complain but......
All computer device's and software packages are great when they are working, However things can and do go wrong. Your system could Crash, be Damaged or just Break down. If you haven’t backed up your work it could be lost!!
When you subscribe to certain Research Websites ,they give you access to build a Family Tree and store all your Finds and References, but Remember If you decide to un-subscribe, you could lose your tree and all your hard work. If you haven’t made a back up
It is good practice to get in to a regular routine of backing up your work. This is for all aspects of your computer not just your family tree. Having a copy of your Tree also gives you the opportunity to upload it in different Family Tree Builders; Family Trees are saved in the format GEDCOM. Whatever it is you use to build your tree it will have an option to EXPORT your tree as a GEDCOM. It is also good practice to back up on to an external device, as well as on your main computer.
GEDCOM = GEnealogical Data COMmunication specification.
