Billy Connolly’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? led him on a journey into his maternal family history, with several surprises along the way. Thanks to detailed military records, Billy was able to follow the life of his great great grandfather.

Losses were felt in almost every town and village: 1,117,077 Commonwealth Servicemen and women lost their lives at sea, on land and in the air and, indeed, at home between 1914 and 1918. Now, this UK-wide campaign has been launched with the aim to commemorate over one million men and women from across the Commonwealth who fell in that war. In conjunction with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Everyman Remembered is a chance for the public to take part in a truly historic and incredibly significant act of remembrance while at the same time supporting Poppyscotland’s vital work with today’s veterans.
